How Does The Sliding Fee Training Model Work?

The cost of providing assistive technology training is $17.50 per hour. However, we understand that for individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI)—which typically amounts to $967 per month—covering basic expenses like rent and food can be challenging in itself, making technology assistance difficult to afford.

To ensure accessibility, we use a sliding fee system supported by a community tip jar. Here’s how it works:

  • If funds are available in the tip jar, you are encouraged to contribute what you can afford toward the hourly rate.
  • For example, if the tip jar contains $20 and you can afford to pay $5 per hour, the remaining $12.50 per hour will be covered by the tip jar.
  • There is no obligation to replenish the tip jar. However, if you later find yourself in a position to give back—such as securing a job or receiving extra income—your contributions will help others access the same support.

By paying it forward, you help ensure future individuals in need can benefit from this service. Your support is deeply appreciated and makes a tangible difference in someone’s journey toward greater independence.
